How to turn an Android tablet into a Google Calendar meeting room display
A spare Android tablet, whether Lenovo, Samsung Galaxy, or similar, can become a meeting room display. Room Cherry opens in Chrome with no Play Store app. It shows the room’s Google Calendar schedule and can optionally let walk-ups tap to book until the next half-hour.
What you need
- A Google Workspace account with room (resource) calendars
- An Android tablet with Chrome
- A wall or glass mount, nearby power, and Android Screen pinning or, optionally, Fully Kiosk
Step by step
1. Connect Google Calendar
Sign in to Room Cherry with your Google Workspace account. Your resource calendars (meeting rooms) are listed automatically.
2. Open and pair the room display
On the Android tablet, open roomcherry.com/go in Chrome. Enter the room code from your dashboard, or scan the room’s QR code to open its display.
3. Add it to the Home screen
In Chrome, use Add to Home screen so the room display opens like an app. There is no Room Cherry app in the Play Store.
4. Keep the screen awake
Set the tablet display timeout as long as that tablet allows. Android menus differ between Lenovo, Samsung Galaxy, and other devices, so use the setting that keeps the screen awake.
5. Pin the room page
Turn on Android Screen pinning in security settings, then pin Chrome from the recent-apps view so people stay on the room page. Fully Kiosk is an optional separate kiosk browser some offices use to lock a page; it is not required, and Room Cherry itself stays in Chrome.
6. Power and mount the tablet
Mount the tablet where people can see the room status and keep it connected to power. Room Cherry remains browser-only.
