How to turn an iPad into a Google Calendar meeting room display
An iPad mounted outside a conference room makes a great Google Calendar room display: people see at a glance whether the room is free and can book it on the spot. Here's how to set one up with Room Cherry using just the browser.
What you need
- A Google Workspace account with room (resource) calendars
- Any iPad with Safari or another modern browser
- A wall or glass mount and a power cable near the door
Step by step
1. Connect Google Calendar
Sign in to Room Cherry with your Google Workspace account. Your resource calendars (meeting rooms) are listed automatically.
2. Open the room link on the iPad
On the iPad, open roomcherry.com/go in Safari and enter the pair code shown on your dashboard, or scan the room's QR code. The room display opens full screen.
3. Add it to the Home Screen
In Safari tap Share → Add to Home Screen. Launching from the icon hides the address bar so the display looks like a dedicated app.
4. Lock the iPad to the display with Guided Access
Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access → On, and set a passcode. Open the room display, triple-click the side or Home button and tap Start. Visitors can tap Book but can't leave the screen.
5. Keep the screen awake
Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never. Inside Guided Access options, also set Display Auto-Lock to Never.
6. Power and mount it
Use a wall or glass mount with a cable channel and keep the iPad plugged in. Optimized Battery Charging helps protect the battery when it's charging all day.
Questions
Do I need an App Store app?
No. Room Cherry runs in Safari or any modern browser, so any iPad that can open a web page works — including older models.
Which iPad should I use?
Any iPad with a current browser. A 10th-generation iPad or iPad mini is plenty; you don't need a Pro.
What happens if Wi-Fi drops?
The display shows when it was last synced and reconnects automatically. Admins get an email if a room display goes offline.
How much does it cost?
Free for 30 days, then $10 per room per month with unlimited displays per room. No card needed to start.
