How to turn an Amazon Fire tablet into a Google Calendar meeting room display
A spare or inexpensive Amazon Fire tablet can show hallway availability without a dedicated panel. Room Cherry opens in the Silk browser with no App Store app, shows the room's Google Calendar schedule, and can optionally let walk-ups tap to book until the next half-hour.
What you need
- A Google Workspace account with room (resource) calendars
- An Amazon Fire tablet with the Silk browser
- A wall or glass mount, nearby power, and access to parental controls or a kiosk browser
Step by step
1. Connect Google Calendar
Sign in to Room Cherry with your Google Workspace account. Your resource calendars (meeting rooms) are listed automatically.
2. Open the room display in Silk
On the Amazon Fire tablet, open roomcherry.com/go in Silk. Enter the pair code from your dashboard, or scan the room's QR code to open its display.
3. Keep the screen awake
Adjust the tablet so the screen stays on while it is mounted outside the room. Setting names vary by Fire OS version, so use the option that prevents the display from sleeping.
4. Lock Silk to the room page
Use the tablet's parental controls or a kiosk browser so Silk stays on the room page and people cannot browse away from the display.
5. Power and mount the tablet
Mount the tablet where people can see the room status and keep it connected to power. Room Cherry remains browser-only; unlike kiosk apps that require an App Store install, there is no app to download.
